What does it mean to organise exhibitions and do research about "art and China"? Join us for this Tai Kwun Conversation with leading international museum professionals and scholars Alexandra Munroe, Jane DeBevoise, and Tai Kwun’s Senior Curator, Ying Kwok, for a discussion about their approaches to studying and presenting art from China in the past three decades. Among her numerous curatorial and scholarly projects, Munroe was a co-curator of the contemporary art survey Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World (2017) at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. With her decades-long involvement with Chinese art through her work with Asia Art Archive in Hong Kong and Asia Art Archive in America, DeBevoise was the deputy director of the Guggenheim during its landmark exhibition China: 5,000 Years (1998).
The discussion will be moderated Dr Pi Li, Head of Art, who, together with Ying Kwok, are the co-curators of Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008, currently on view at Tai Kwun. After the conversation, audiences will have the chance to engage in a Q&A session with the speakers.
